Dickinson uses the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles. What metaphor would you use to describe your own mind?

Prompt: I would use a carnival to describe my own mind. Usually there's a lot going on in my mind and I feel like a carnival sums that up perfectly. Between the games and the rides at a carnival that describes what goes on in my own mind. My mind always has something going on in it usually no matter what. I also really like going to the carnival and I like what goes on in my mind most of the time so that also helps with the metaphor.

Summary: Today we looked at an Emily Dickinson poem and started our heart assignment.

Reflection: I learned how metaphors can be embedded in poems.

Prompt: Both poems by Robert Frost explore the passage of time and life’s changing moments. Write about a time when something in your life changed more quickly than you expected. How does this experience connect to Frost’s idea that “Nothing gold can stay”?

Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt: In the poem, the speaker and his neighbor meet each year to repair a wall. Describe a time when you had to set or respect a boundary with a friend, family member, or classmate. How did it help or hurt your connection with that person?
